Kappa Kappa Gamma Leadership Academy

Editorial Design + Illustration

Leadership, with a little adventure.

Kappa Leadership Academy brings members together for an immersive weekend of leadership development, connection and learning, all set against the backdrop of summer camp. Kappa Kappa Gamma

Working within the established event brand, I helped bring the Leadership Academy experience to life through editorial design, custom illustration and supporting event materials, creating a visual system that carried from the Field Guide in attendees' hands to large-scale pieces throughout the event.

The Brief

Taking the brand from concept to camp.

The Leadership Academy brand direction had already been established, giving me a visual foundation to build from. My role was to expand that creative direction across the materials attendees would interact with throughout the experience.

The centerpiece was the Leadership Academy Field Guide, an editorial piece designed to organize schedules, activities, leadership content and space for reflection in a way that felt useful, approachable and connected to the camp setting.

From there, I developed custom illustrations and supporting pieces that extended the same visual language across the event, creating a cohesive experience from page to place.

Built for the Journey.

Turning leadership development into a Field Guide.

Rather than approaching the program materials like a traditional workbook, the Field Guide was designed to feel like something attendees might actually carry on an adventure.

I used Adobe InDesign to build a flexible editorial system that could handle everything from schedules and educational content to activities, prompts and note-taking pages while maintaining a consistent visual hierarchy throughout.

Camp-inspired typography, illustrated details, badges and an outdoor color palette help break up information and make the guide feel approachable, while still keeping the content easy to navigate and use throughout the weekend.

Earn Your Badges.

Five competencies. Five custom illustrations.

The five Leadership Academy competencies became an opportunity to create a visual system within the larger event design.

I illustrated a custom badge for each competency, using familiar outdoor and adventure imagery to make each concept easy to recognize while keeping the full set visually connected.

The badges appear throughout the Field Guide and supporting materials, giving attendees a visual cue as they move through different parts of the Leadership Academy experience.

Illustrating the Experience.

A little personality goes a long way.

Custom illustrations were created throughout the program to add personality, reinforce activities and turn educational concepts into something more visual and memorable.

From outdoor icons and maps to playful characters, each illustration was created to work within the established Leadership Academy style while giving individual moments their own identity.

The artwork was developed using Procreate and Adobe Illustrator, allowing hand-drawn ideas and scalable vector elements to work together across both print and large-format applications.

From Page to Place.

Carrying the experience beyond the Field Guide.

The Leadership Academy visual language extended beyond printed materials and into the event environment itself.

Supporting pieces including postcards, large-scale graphics, a photo backdrop and an interactive coloring banner helped transform the camp setting into a cohesive branded experience. Familiar illustrations, colors and visual elements appeared throughout, connecting the materials attendees carried with the environment around them.

Designed to Be Experienced.

Leadership Academy wasn't designed to live in one format. The Field Guide, illustrations and event pieces worked together to create an experience that felt cohesive without feeling overly formal or corporate.

From a small badge printed on a page to a large-format backdrop across the room, each piece helped reinforce the same sense of exploration, connection and adventure.
