Wondering how to find your Etsy keyword? If you’re unsure what keywords to use for your listings, or you want ideas on what to create next, there is an Etsy keyword secret weapon you may be missing!
How to Find Your Etsy Keyword Secret Weapon
Feeling Stuck on Etsy Keyword Choices
Whenever I’m feeling stuck on what Etsy search terms to consider for my product listings in my title and tags I often rely on third party tools like Marmalead or Google Keyword Planner.
These tools are great and give you some amazing suggestions.
EtsyRank is a free tool to help you plan your keywords. It relies on Bing in part and isn’t too shabby for helping you get your listings found on Etsy. Then, there is Marmalead (relies on Google in part). This has a free version but it is limited. Paying for Marmalead may not be where you are in your Etsy business right now, but eventually you may find it a worthwhile tool to help you with your best Etsy keyword.
The Google Keyword planner is also good if you’re looking to have people find you via Google searches. It can be a little confusing at first, figuring out how to use it, but it’s going to show you keywords and their popularity.
Finding Etsy Keyword Synonyms
When keyword results from these third party tools leave you with limited options, look up synonyms! It’s important to think like “all” the customers. What are they using? The term you might have in your head is called something completely different for someone else.
Free tools like thesraus.com and synonym.com will assist you in finding variations for your Etsy keywords
Strategically using Etsy Keywords
First off, using the best keywords for your listings and mixing them up is key. You need to be diligent to not be repetitive with listings.
You’re only going to show up on one page at a time for the same long tail keyword. So if someone searches for Halloween SVG, it’s likely that if you used that for the first part of your title and description that only one of your listings will show up on the first page.
Don’t compete with yourself for this reason!
Get creative, try various keywords to use at the beginning of your titles and in your description and tags section. Mix it up.
Your Etsy Keyword Secret Weapon
But there is a super awesome secret weapon right inside of Etsy that helps you see exactly what your customers are searching for that you may not have considered before.
If you go into the stats section of our Etsy shop, then choose “Customers” from the top, you’ll get a screen like this:
This is a feature that shows you what items your customers have been searching for on Etsy. So if you’re an SVG designer like me, you can see what’s hot right now.
As I write this post the fall, Halloween, Christmas holidays are approaching. I’d be dumb not to take that as a sign that maybe I’m behind on getting those products listed now!
This Listing Stat Will Give You New Product Ideas
If you’re looking for new ideas, this will help you, too. For instance, I may not have realized that football was so popular. I guess I should design some football SVG files, asap!
If you click on each block, it will open up the search inside of Etsy to see what others have been listing. Don’t copy, though. But it should inspire you to get a piece of that pie!
Make a list of your search terms to see how you can incorporate them into your listings, or come up with new products for your shop.
Get those shops filled up for the holidays!
