Should I have a blog? Here are 3 reasons to make a blog for your business. Your Etsy shop and creative online shop deserves the exposure to skyrocket your sales.
Why you should make a blog for your business should be a no-brainer. But, I still hear it from people all of the time. Why do I need to make a blog? Is it going to benefit my niche? Yes. It’s important to you brand.
The Wrong Reasons to Make a Blog
For myself, when I first started blogging, I did it to share my personal thoughts, rants, and whatever I was scrapbooking at the moment. There was no strategy to my madness.
- I wasn’t consistent with when I posted.
- I had a bazillion categories that had no niche.
- I didn’t have a marketing plan to share my posts.
Who’s been there too? Maybe you still are there. Your arms are flailing, and you keep asking yourself, “why am I doing this? Nothing is coming from it that benefits me.”
3 Reasons to Make a Blog
Here’s what blogging does for you. If you haven’t yet done it, or even if you’re trying to clean up the mess you have made over the years, keep these things in mind:
When You Make a Blog for your Business You Own It
Let me give you an example of why you should make a blog that I hope drives this home for you:
You’re posting to Instagram only, no blog. You keep sharing great photos perhaps to push people to your Etsy store to buy something you have hand-made. It’s a great resource!
Then, Instagram goes and creates a new algorithm and your number of likes tanks. Why aren’t people seeing your work and liking it anymore? Why would Instagram do this to me?
I’ll tell you why! They own Instagram, and they can do whatever they want. Now, you’re no longer reaching all of those awesome fans of your work and your sales drop.
Don’t get me started on the scenario of what if Etsy changed, or worse, shut your shop down because you broke some rules.
Having a blog of your own (not one of those free hosted ones) means you are in control. You have a place that you’ve been sharing content and maybe even a little mini shop. Now, people will continue to find you, or better yet, you’ve been collecting emails so you can let them know where to find you.Having a blog of your own means you are in control! 3 Reasons to Make a Blog.Click To Tweet
When you Make a Blog, it Builds Credibility & Captures Your Audience
If you’ve spent some time with me here, I’m sure you have seen that I love to share a lot of knowledge with you. I even love sharing my fails. Why? Because I want you to succeed!
When you make a blog, you should be sharing your expertise. It helps you to build credibility as an authority in your niche. If someone happens upon your blog and finds answers, the chances that they come back are pretty high. When you make a blog, you should be sharing your expertise. 3 Reasons to Make a Blog.Click To Tweet
Returning visitors is a huge win because the credibility means that these are people that trust that you have resources they find useful. This, in turn, means they buy from trustworthy, credible people. These are your target audience!
Plus, these are people that will give up their email addresses to you. But not just for any old reason. You have to give them, even MORE, expertise that they want in exchange for that email address.
And, when we think about the first reason I said you should make a blog, the email list thing just makes sense, right? Send them exclusive content and stay in touch with them regularly to keep building that credibility.
When You Make a Blog, It Helps Your SEO
I didn’t understand this when I first started to blog. I do now. And, it makes sense. You must be strategic when it comes to blogging.
Understand that SEO is not instant. It’s a long-term hard working thing that you must be consistent in approaching. A search engine loves when there is fresh content published. It makes the little spiders go crazy!
So, you want to publish content frequently and on a consistent basis to help your SEO. The more you post, the more Google will send its feelers out to you and help you to stay on top and be found. That equals MORE SALES!Publish content frequently to send those Google spiders crawling like crazy!Click To Tweet
But, to be found, you also have to optimize your posts properly, which is another blog topic itself. Just know that you need to strategically optimize your post titles, tags, and content for it to work. Maybe I’ll work on that with you in another post.
Where Are You With Your Blog?
There are plenty of more benefits to make a blog for your business, but these three are my personal go-to’s when someone asks me why they should make a blog. If you don’t have a blog yet, consider it.
If you do, start working on a strategic plan. Create a content calendar, so you can remain consistent with posting and feed the SEO monster. And, collect emails. It will benefit you greatly in the future as you build your business!
